What's New?

Updated: Sep 20

Hey everyone, it has been a while since I made a post on my blog so it was only right I introduce myself to the new subscribers.

My name is Shomari Harris and I am a women's basketball player development coach at Wichita State and a former pro player who spent six amazing years overseas. I am also a Las Vegas native who has used basketball as a compass in life. It shaped my work ethic, mindset, and taught me how to push through challenges. Once I completed high school I moved to Texas for college. After becoming a junior college All-American in two years at Collin College, I attended Cal State East Bay and Texas A&M-Commerce, and I recieved my bachelors degree in 2017. Shortly after I graduated I moved to Houston, Texas to focus on becoming the best professional basketball player I could be.

I traveled from Houston to Europe, Central America, and the Middle East. After six years I retired from the game I loved and began my coaching career at Kilgore College in 2023. Throughout my college and professional career I gained a passion for fitness. The benefits of weight training improved both my body and my mental health. Therefore, I prioritze a fitness routine that aligns with my busy career.

This blog is my corner to share my journey. I created smalltalkBIGthoughts during my last semester in college when I was trying to find myself outside of basketball. It has always been my safe space to create and relate to people. The last two years of transitioning into coaching caused me to neglect this space but I am back !!! I will be giving insight on player development, fitness, nutrition, and even some fashion - because I believe in showing up strong both on and off the court.

Make sure you subscribe, you don't want to miss out.
